Useful information about Mozambique

Weather
Mozambique has a tropical climate, influenced by the monsoon season in the Indian Ocean and the warm currents in the Mozambique Channel.
The rainy season is from October to April. Average rainfall in the mountains is over 2,000 mm. Relative humidity is high, between 70 and 80%, although this value can range between 10 and 90% throughout the day.
Average temperatures vary between 20ºC in the south and 26ºC in the south, and the highest temperatures coincide with the rainy season.

Health
All visitors must be vaccinated against yellow fever, and should carry their international certification of vaccination to be allowed entry to the country. Although not compulsory, vaccination against Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and tetanus is also recommended.
During your stay, you should take action to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes. Sun protection is recommended to avoid sunburn.
You should be careful about what drinking water and if possible, choose bottled water. At the first sign of illness, look for one of the many hospitals, health centres or clinics.

Currency
The local currency is the Metical. The American dollar, the Euro and the Rand are also accepted in many places. Credit cards and travellers cheques can also be used.

Official language
Portuguese. English is fairly widely spoken. Many Mozambican languages are common outside of urban areas.

Documents
Visitors must have a visa, issued by a Mozambican Embassy or Consulate. To obtain this, you will need to show your passport, supply two photographs and fill in a form. Visas can be requested at the border for stays of up to 30 days.
During your stay, it is compulsory to carry an ID document or certified copy of it with you at all times.

Driving
In Mozambique, cars drive on the left. Drivers must always carry ID with them and hold an international driving licence. Drivers and passengers must use seatbelts at all times while driving.
